REVIEWS
* * * * "Romney's powerhouse vocals and the set of well-crafted songs leave you wanting more." THE TIMES (UK - National Press) - Album Review "Fill in Your Gray"(excerpt)
"Getty’s rich, bluesy voice is the first thing to command attention, but with above-average guitar-playing abilities and an equally distinctive songwriting style, she truly is the complete package." Exclaim Magazine (April 2008) - Album Review "Ramblin' Girl"(excerpt)
* * * "She has been called the Canadian Bonnie Raitt, but her sound is earthier, summoning up the delta sprit on "Waiting on the Day" and "Ain't No Mistake." The rootsy guitar playing is a handy counterpoint to her baked-clay delivery." UNCUT MAGAZINE (This Month in Americana) - Album Review "Fill In Your Gray" (excerpt)
"Romney Getty - a woman with a really terrific voice. This is gritty and real stuff. File under very very promising". BBC Radio 2 - Bob Harris Show

REVIEWS (Continued)
"...expertly sashaying from roughneck R&B to a little light skip-and-shuffle, it's a sweaty cellar club and all is well."
MOJO MAGAZINE - Album Review "Fill In Your Gray"(excerpt)
"She drives her musicians and flays audiences with a raucous, gutsy voice. Despite the timelessness of the sound, Romney conveys a modern mood. The songs assert the emotional independence of an uncompromising, determined young woman." CITY LIFE (Manchester, UK)
"When she started, the size of the audience was in it's infancy, but her Melissa Etheridge voice, which was loaded with character, started drawing them closer. ...I wanted to take these two (Romney & Jeff) home..." CHART MAGAZINE (Live Review - Canadian Music Week)
"Her distinctive, powerful voice marks her as one to watch." EVENING MAIL (Birmingham, UK)
"At a time when much that passes for blues is in fact closer to heavy rock, Canada's Romney Getty is a breath of fresh air." THE INDEPENDANT (London, UK)
"...her deep and rich voice has the grittiness of Lucinda Williams and the power and excitement of Janis Joplin." THE EVENING POST (Bristol, UK)
"Wow, can this girl deliver a song or what!? Romney is a singer-songwriter from Canada and her very personal and soulful delivery of country blues is totally spellbinding." GUITAR TECHNIQUES
* * * * "This young lady has a great vocal aptitude, delivering the words very clearly but with amazing grittiness where needed. ...if Romney keeps releasing such excellent music, then her road will almost definately be going somewhere..." MAVERICK MAGAZINE - Album Review "Fill in Your Gray"(excerpt)
"...this is a belting first record. The single greatest attribute the young Canadian has is a voice that ranges from enveloping, soft high notes to gruff and sexy lows, giving the songs an honesty and directness which helps them hit home. It’s a mix of miked-up harmonicas, acoustic guitars, slides and lots of soul, all thrown together with a nod to the country movement and a passing wave to the blues along the way. " AMERICANA-UK - Album Review "Fill in Your Gray" (exerpt) - James Clark
"As a broadcaster and reviewer I get sent a lot of new CD's to listen to and, with the best will in the world, not every one will get a fair hearing. However, when Fill In Your Gray by Romney arrived it really stood way out there in front. This is a tremendous first album from Canadian Romney Getty and it is getting heavy play on my programme and at home." Bluesmatters Magazine (UK) - Album Review "Fill in Your Gray" (exerpt) - Graeme Scott
"...think Bonnie Raitt meets Janis Joplin, then duck because sparks fly." NETRYTHMS (UK) - Album Review "Fill in Your Gray" (exerpt) - Michael Mee
"a touch of twang, part Lucinda (Williams), part KD Lang. The songs drifted by quite nicely, good, solid stuff..." "a Taj
Mahal cover, then the much played ‘In My Time Of Dying’, Romney’s voice
seemed to come to life in these songs - a powerful full throated roar and
moan, and brother Jeff showed he certainly knew his way round blues
guitar. I felt a spark, a definite spark, she’s one to watch." AMERICANA-UK (Live Review) Exerpt - Marshall Crenshaw and Romney Getty - The Borderline
London - Review by Patrick
Wilkins.
"Fill in Your Gray",
released in June on their own "Augustus Records" ...I am still finding new
reasons to Love it with every listen. Each song takes on a different feel
or blend of genres that gives them great crossover potential in many radio
formats. The songs, all written by Romney, slide ever so gently through
cajun, gypsy, blues, country and folk styles. Each instrument gets very
many shining moments throughout the album without bogging the songs down
or extending them needlessly. The arrangements are sometimes lilting
sometimes jolting but always tight and intriguing. This doesn't feel or
sound like your typical debut at all. Certainly the production skills of
Jeff Getty (Laughing Sams Breakdown) are partially responsible, but it's
the band as a unit and the strength of the tunes that makes this a good
listen from the first song. The southern swingy lilt of "Ain't no
Mistake", or the sweet longing moan's in "Waiting For The Day" take this
album and it's listeners on cool trip through many emotional tales of
love, change and the south. Romney's heartwrenching, soul-infused wails on
"Cryin' the Blues" are enough in itself to make you wanna say "Wow... what
next?" CHRW
